PRSSA History
Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) was founded in 1967 in Philadelphia. The organization was created to provide students the opportunity to build a relationship with professional public relations practitioners. PRSSA was derived from the PRSA members’ rising concern for the future of the public relations profession. They believed a student organization was necessary to create educational and networking opportunities for future public relations professionals. The national organization of PRSSA has a committee of 10 students and four advisors from around the nation. These members are responsible for making executive decisions for PRSSA as well as supporting the individual chapters and members of the organization. Currently, PRSSA has more than 7.000 members nationally from 227 colleges and universities. The organization is geared towards providing educational experiences for these future public relations professionals with local and national projects, programs, awards, and scholarships.

ISU PRSSA Committee Information
Progressive Image (PRI) is a student-run public relations agency. This subcommittee works with many organizations throughout the Bloomington community, including the Make a Wish Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, and the Alzheimer’s Association. PRI creates public relations campaigns and press kits to create awareness and raise money for these organizations.
PRSSA’s relations committee is responsible for maintaining relationships within the organization as well as establishing relationships with alumni. Each month the committee releases a newsletter, called Premier, which informs members about the recent events and developments in the organization. The relations committee also contacts recent alumni in order to create networking opportunities for the students in PRSSA.
The event management committee, which is responsible for the annual Fashion Show raises money for PRSSA through fundraisers.
